After graduating, I went to Boston University Jr. College, and later to secretarial school. As it turned out, it was bookkeeping that I really enjoyed and was able to get a job doing this for a manufacturing company.
It was in 1961that I married and moved to Nassau in the Bahamas. After about 4½ years, we moved to Antwerp, Belgium for about two years, then to Greenlawn, Long Island for another couple of years. Off again to Walnut Creek, CA, from there to Whittier, CA probably for another couple of years. In 1975, we settled at Madeline Island, WI where my husband had grown up.
There we bought a restaurant and pub. Also, I rented summer cabins, sold real estate, kept books for his construction company, the Beach Club etc.
In 1981 I woke up and realized that life shouldn’t be this bad, divorced, and left town. I moved 75-miles away to Superior, WI, rented an apartment, and got a bookkeeping job with a beer distributor.
In 1982, I met the one and we married in 1983. Until 1990 we both worked, had some apartment rentals, enjoyed the 10-week long summers, tolerated gnats and struggled with long winters in the northwest corner of Wisconsin on Lake Superior.
In 1990, Dave and I sold the snow blower and moved to Las Vegas (we found that we brought the snow shovel – oh well!). We’ve been here ever since. We lived in a couple of houses – then decided to build our own home ten years ago and here we are. Dave works out of the house as a consultant and I am his proofreader and sounding board.
I am still bowling twice a week. One ladies league and one mixed old people’s league. Dave doesn’t bowl. Its’ a wonderful life out here and I’m sure this is where we will stay. My sister has a house out here now. She and her husband winter here and summer in New York.
If you are ever out this way and want to connect with us, don’t hesitate, it would be fun.
It’s hard to think 50 years passed so quickly. |
