Where Am I?
I still live in Oregon but I no longer live in Pendleton. When I retired I moved to a little community of antique stores and mom & pop restaurants and coffee shops called Multnomah Village in the southwest section of Portland. I can see Mt Hood 45 miles to the east and what is left of Mt St. Helens to the northeast. The Oregon coast is only 65 miles to the west.
What Am I Doing?
Most anything I want. While I would like to think that was true, I have committed myself to a variety of projects that leave me very little time to be bored. I still keep the database for our class (if all of you would quit moving around so much my life would be infinitely easier), teach the driver safety class for AARP, volunteer with our public library and also volunteer for the Oregon Golf Association. I am on the board of directors for our condominium association and even act as secretary for the association. I know there must be several English teachers that cringe when I say that When I get a chance I ride my bike (Portland is noted for its bike routes), play golf and travel.
What About My Family?
My two children are both on the west coast. Shannon, the oldest, is a professor at Cal State San Bernardino while Glenn is in the travel industry in the Portland area. I get to see Glenn often but only see Shannon when I am in Palm Springs or she is off on school holiday. Shannon still has the travel lust (she is in Estonia as I write this), it is a good thing her brother is in the travel business. Both the kids still play soccer and have now taken up rock climbing
What Else Keeps Me Occupied?
I still enjoy golf, skiing and snorkeling but I gave up SCUBA diving. I also still enjoy jazz and reading (or listening to) mysteries.
My Message to the Class of '57
Keeping the class database has kept me in touch with many of you, sharing the good news of weddings, grandkids and other special events. Sometimes it also brings the sad news of illness or death. I look forward to seeing all of you at the reunion and getting reacquainted with those of you that I haven't been in touch with for a while. Maybe we can reinstitute our annual update mailing and post the comments on the web again.
See you at the reunion! |
