Bonnie Kogos

Where am I?

Physically living in New York City. Traveling often, to the British Virgin Islands, South Florida and Lake Huron, Northern Ontario.

What am I doing?

After a 35 year career as a travel agent and travel writer, during which time I published a travel newsletter [15 years] for my agency. I was lucky to represent United States Travel & Tourism, for the State Department on two Blue Ribbon Missions, to Ecuador and to Yugoslavia. Wonderful career in travel for those years. When I became engaged to a man from Northern Ontario, I moved up to Manitoulin Island, where I lived for four years, and developed a newspaper column, “Window Seat”, published in The Sudbury Star. Northern Ontario is divine in summer, white and windy and beautiful in winter. You need all your woolies! The Sudbury Star newspaper published my first book, in 2001, called Manitoulin Adventures: I Was Mistaken for a Rich, Red, Ripe Tomato, which happily sold out! I've completed my second book, stories between the islands of Manhattan and Manitoulin, to be published next spring. I still do occasional travel for clients, but interviewing and finding stories that are miracles, fun and for learning is my quest. I'm thrilled to have 40,000 readers in the region.

What about my family?

While I have never married, and have no children, I have extended relationships are stimulating and loving, and that span decades and geographic boundaries. My extended family sprawls from home base in NYC, to North Ontario and South Florida. I'm close to my sister and her family, friends, readers, and lots of old boy friends!

What keeps me occupied?

I love exercising, kayaking, canoeing, swimming. Two years ago, thrilled to achieve my Open Water Scuba Diver's License in Belize. I love meeting people and interviewing them for my newspaper column, and writing about the miracles of our struggles, our growth and what can happen. I concentrate on the learning around me. I include my daily struggle to become a better writer and I attend Writer's Workshops regularly.

My Message to the Class of '57:
