Where Am I?
In Western Arizona but the best way to contact me is by email. Either ace1@prontomail.com or agc1@achievesoaringsuccess.com. Would love to hear from any of you. If I listed everyone I wanted to hear from it would take up a couple of pages and Dohn and Dave would say I am creating too much work for them. So assume you are on the list and please write (email.)
What Am I Doing?
I am retired from medical practice. I had a mild CVA a few years back. My head is ok but my left leg is “gimpy,” so getting around is a problem. Therefore, I will not be at the reunion.
However, as some of you know, Jim and I adopted 7 older special needs children in two separate sibling groups many years ago. Jim and I have had 4 of the grandchildren from those adopted children with us, since they were infants. Jim and I are Legal Guardians, and I home school them on the Internet. This is a good educational solution and much safer these days than many public schools. Boy! Has academic stuff changed, since our school days! Living things are now in 6 Kingdoms, not two. And the world was once one Continent that separated over time. That is for starters.
But here comes the best part of the story. The older Granddaughter is in High School and guess where her teacher went to Elementary School… Lakeville School on 260th Street (as did I). But she is a youngster! She graduated Great Neck South High about 25 years ago. Talk about small world. There are some things that the Great Neck culture in grains in one, in terms of things like challenging one self, reaching out for the best and stuff. I think many of you know what I mean. And I am so please that this teacher has those special qualities and that our grandchildren will get some exposure to them.
What About My Family?
Jim and I will celebrate our 30th Anniversary next February. As I said we have 4 grandchildren who live with us, Heather 15, Josh 14, Andrea 13 and Andrew, who will be 11 by reunion time. And then there is a dog, Lady, and some cats. (The kids found a tarantula in the driveway yesterday, but I guess that does not count…) We do take day trips and I think a favorite one is to the Grand Canyon. We also live about an hour from the London Bridge. (It was rebuilt some years ago and reassembled at Lake Havasu, AZ.)
What Else Keeps Me Occupied?
I have been interested in computers since shortly after I graduated from college. I have been on the Internet since before there were browsers… back in Unix days and it was awful. I spend several hours daily online and have a website http://www.achievesoaringsuccess.com that I have not changed in years. I am starting to work on http://www.askinggrandma.com which will be more into things like support for home schooling parents and guardians, and domestic things that interest me. I have also been studying PHP this summer… for a non-programmer that is a challenge.
My other interest, as Dohn well knows, is in watching figure skating, especially the stars from Great Neck, Sarah and Emily Hughes.
My Message to the Class of ‘57:
I would like to say A Million Thank You’s to Dohn, Dave, Jay, Laurie, Sandy and all of you who have put so much of yourselves into reunion after reunion. You guys are great, and I really appreciate the efforts.
I also want to site the work of our classmate, Dr. Mel Levine. Mel has made and continues to make a huge contribution to help children with atypical learning patterns. I highly recommend his web site http://www.allkindsofminds.org and his monthly newsletter. Thank you, Mel, for all you have done for Kids.
My Requests:
Could you video some of reunion and some scenes around Great Neck. I also would like for you to video Ron Prince’s skit. I am sure I am not the only one who cannot go. I will be thinking about you guys that night. |
