Where Am I?

I am living in Winston Salem, NC having moved from new Hampshire in 11/06 with my partner of ten years, Michael Bonovich. We have a brand new home in a new development not far from the city and close to the beautiful countryside of rolling hills, farms and scenic vistas. We love being in the South and welcome warmer winters, early springs and a new beginning in every way!

What Am I doing?

Having retired after 33 years of teaching (elementary and special education), I enjoy a variety of parttime jobs: substitute teaching, senior care and working for Smart Start.

What about my family?

My two daughters, Jennifer (32) and Suzanne (30) live in Portsmouth, NH and Annapolis, MD, respectively. Jennifer, about to be married on 9/22/07, is a Marine Biologist at the University of NH. Suzanne is Restoration Manager for the Jones Falls Watershed Association in Baltimore, MD.

What else Keeps Me Occupied?

Michael and I formed a musical duo 15 years ago – “Mike and Katie”. We perform a large repertoire of music from the 60's-90's: folk, some soft rock (i.e., Eric Clapton, Beatles), bluegrass and country. While we both accompany ourselves on our guitars, I sometimes add harmonica, as well as harmony to most of our tunes. We have performed for adults and children in a variety of settings.

I also have loved to travel, having returned to Europe many

times after teaching there in the early 60s. Most recent

adventures include a second trip to Norway to visit Michael's

brother and family, a visit to Canada, cruise to Alaska, and

recent visits to New Mexico and Colorado.

Creative writing was always a great interest during my high school days and I continue to write poems which I plan to put together in a volume for family. A goal is to write children's' stories – I have many ideas yet to put on paper!

Reading, gardening and walking are other daily activities as well as continuing to be a lifelong learner, exploring new horizons!

My Message to the Class of '57:

My memory of our days at Great Neck High School remains crystal clear and etched in my memory. I can so easily start humming a song from “Finnian's Rainbow”, remember the inspiration of Jack Field's Creative Writing class, or recall all the details of the lovely evening of our graduation when our futures were indeed so bright and promising. I will always think of you all and send you all my very best wishes for good health and happiness.
